American Recovery & Reinvestment Act

Federal financial aid programs administered by Oregon’s colleges and universities will receive increased funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Programs with funding increases include Federal Pell Grants and College Work Study. See the table below for a summary description.

The Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) administers over 400 public grant and private scholarship programs, including Oregon Opportunity Grants. OSAC grants and scholarship programs will not receive increased funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Students interested in the Federal Pell Grants and College Work Study programs should contact campus financial aid offices directly to learn about how to apply for campus-based aid.

Any student who is interested in obtaining financial aid to attend postsecondary education should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form annually. This is the only application required for Federal Pell Grants and Oregon Opportunity Grants and it is also the gateway to most campus-based financial aid.

Financial Aid	Funding from the federal government goes directly to the school. For students, the stimulus will deliver an extra $ 619 toward tuition in 2009-2010 as the maximum grant amount increases from $4,731 to $5,350. Oregon Pell Grant funding will increase from $ 200.4 million to $281.8 million, a 41 percent hike from last year.
